AIKIDO

What is Aikido? A comparatively modern martial art developed around a hundred years ago but steeped in tradition and spirituality.

Aikido blends self-defence techniques originating in the much older Jujutsu combined with graceful balanced movement derived from swordplay. It includes balance, posture and breathing that would not be unfamiliar to those who practice TaiChi.

Aikido is effective without being aggressive nor competitive. It has been described as “the art of defending oneself whilst protecting ones attacker”.

We cater for students of all ages. Our youngest are at primary school, our oldest is collecting his state pension.

Being super-fit is not a requirement. We’ve had people with disabilities, health issues and special needs – we adapt teaching to suit each student.

Why not give it a try? You don’t need any special clothing nor outfit to begin with; just something loose with no buttons nor buckles nor other hard parts. Jewellery and watches need to be removed (rings can be taped or bandaged over) and we work in bare feet.
